Join us at our cover cropping field day at Kioma Station with Grant Sims of Vic NoTill.
Do you want to lift the life and function of your soil through biology, and reduce use of seed dressings, insecticides and fungicides?
Vic NoTill’s Grant Sims and Kioma Station Manager Ewen Beaton will demonstrate how you can do this and increase your profitability at the same time at our cover cropping field day at Kioma Station.
Grant Sims will present on how he has transitioned into a regen farming cropping system integrating livestock and multi species cover crops, and how he implements soil health principles to improve soil structure, production and resilience while maximising input efficiencies.
Ewen will take us on a tour of Kioma’s cover crops, and Grant and Ewen will cover some alternative methods in managing pests and disease using nutrition and biology that we can make on farm.
Topics include: cover cropping, seed mixes, urea foliar applications, home made bio-fermented liquid fertilisers, biological stimulants, leaf tissue testing and vermi-cast extracts.
Event sponsor Metagen will talk about how they can address biological limitations in their client's systems through an integrated paddock to lab to paddock process and Metagen's soil treatments and foliars designed for Australian conditions.
Auscrimper’s Charlie Lange will have the Auscrimper Cover Crop Roller on site to show us some of its unique features suited to Australia’s tough conditions.
Agronomist Andrew Erbacher will also speak about DAF's three year research project on cover cropping in our region.
Multi species cropping expert Grant Sims is a 6th generation farmer and former president of Vic NoTill Farmers Association. In 2015 he was named Victoria’s farmer of the year for his innovative approach to regenerative farming and working towards a sustainable future. Vic NoTill is one of Australia’s leading regenerative agriculture groups being lead by farmers who want to think beyond conventional farming practices. For more information on Grant, click here.
Thank you to our event sponsors Metagen, Auscrimper and Southern Queensland Landscapes. This project is supported by Highways and Byways - Healing the Land, Healing Ourselves, Together, and funding from the Australian Government.
INTRODUCING METAGEN – The Soil Health Company
We are excited to announce ag biotechnology company Metagen as a sponsor of our Cover Cropping Field Day.
Based in Gatton, Metagen helps growers improve profitability by addressing biological limitations in their system through an integrated paddock to lab to paddock process.
A major benefit of the Metagen system is that they help growers reduce their use of, or get the most out of, fertiliser and other synthetic inputs.
Metagen’s first step with clients is to find out the limitations or challenges in their system, with a particular focus on soil biology.
The potential cause of these challenges is identified through DNA based soil testing of beneficial microbes, pathogen isolation and custom analysis of chemistry or biology in Metagen’s in-house lab.
The team then works with growers and their agronomist to come up with a solution, and offers a range of soil treatment products and foliars specifically for Australian conditions. These are aimed at increasing the activity of indigenous beneficial soils or plant microbes, which act to increase nutrient cycling and promote disease suppression of soil-borne pathogens.
Metagen support and advice is often an ongoing process, validated through lab testing.
The Metagen team includes three molecular microbiologists, an in-house chemist, agronomists and support staff. Chris Baldock will be at our cover cropping field day to speak more about Metagen’s services. In the meantime, contact Chris on M: 0434 952 070 or E: chris@metagen.com.au
INTRODUCING AUSCRIMPER
A big thank you to Auscrimper for sponsoring our Cover Cropping Field Day.
Auscrimper is a family-owned business started by Queensland father and son team David & Charlie Lange, who design and manufacture a growing range of regenerative agricultural farming equipment.
Their flagship design, the Auscrimper Cover Crop Roller is made to terminate cover crops to allow for the planting of a cash crop directly into the crimped cover crop. Crimping leaves a layer of protective mulch, returning the valuable nutrients to the soil and amplifying their productivity in the next growth cycle.
Charlie and David are passionate about creating robustly designed and engineered products to equip landholders with appropriate tools and implements designed for regenerative agriculture. The range also includes:
The Langes pride themselves on their honest, reliable and good old fashioned customer service, and they can design products to suit customer needs. They provide in-field support and you can even dry hire their cover crop roller so you can see the results on your own property.
Charlie will have the Auscrimper Cover Crop Roller on site at our Cover Cropping Field Day to show us some of its unique features suited to Australia’s tough conditions. In the meantime you can contact Charlie on PH 0475 205 443 or email info@auscrimper.com.au
